Stingless Bees

I found a nest!

We're glad you found this page. With a few simple steps, the bees can be saved.

What to do, step by step

  1. Stay calm.
Stingless bees don't sting. You are not in danger.
  2. Don't touch the nest.
Don't block the entrance, and don't use water, fire or poison.
  3. Take a photo.
Photograph the nest entrance and, if you can, the bees up close. It helps identify the species.
  4. Note the location.
The address, where the nest is (wall, tree, pole) and how high up.
  5. Ask for a rescue.
Contact a stingless beekeeper or a local beekeepers' association and send the photo and the location.

If the nest isn't in the way, leave it there

  • They don't harm people or pets.
  • They pollinate the plants in your neighborhood, including vegetable gardens and fruit trees.
  • Removing a nest without the right technique usually kills the colony.
